Synopsis

Liquids are a crucial component of every living species. Many cell types such as vascular endothelial cells, lymphatic endothelial cells and epithelial cells of the kidneys and lungs are surrounded by moving fluids. The flow of liquid causes shear stress that influences the cell morphology and behaviour in many ways. It has a great impact on the physiological behaviour and adhesion properties of cells. Cells react to shear stress by changes in ion channel activation, gene expression, and reorganization of the whole cell layer.

In this session, we will introduce the ibidi Pump System, which enables the culture of adherent cells under various shear stress conditions and flow patterns. In combination with ibidi Channel Slides, the system can be used to address the following issues: the maintenance of vascular homeostasis, the disruption of endothelial barriers, and the regulation of the immune response.

Key Takeaways :

Working principle of the Ibidi Pump System and the main experiment parameters: viscosity, flow profile and suitable Ibidi channel slides
Flexibility of the Ibidi pump system in generating different flow types: unidirectional, pulsatile, and oscillating
Different options of the channel slides available with varieties of geometry
Non-toxic Biotium One-step Blue® protein gel stain: simple workflow, enhances sensitivity support in colorimetric & fluorescence detection
